Ilham's comment:
Amazing that I could actually read this piece in one go.....fantastic finding indeed.....this is similar to Wheel of Fortune or Roda Impian gameshow that you don't need the full words to complete a sentence and some of the contestants were indeed master in connecting the missing words....
..this also confirm the fact that you don't need to be a musician to talk about music or an astranouts to talk about the space...what you need is understanding the basic or fundamental elements of the issue/matter....we ,me included, always shy away from analysing or talking about issue that we thought we are not qualified to discuss i.e. religious, laws, politics..but the actual fact we have all the basic fundamental to share views and ideas about the matters....i remember reading some interesting comments that really struck me immediately " it is fine if we can run like Carl Lewis though we have the same two legs, but it is unaccpetable when we failed to use our brain as Einstein did with his" (or something to that effect).....
.....thinking or analysing is as important as reading and researching ....reading without thinking is like singing a popular Latin song without knowing whether the lyrics was about cursing your mother!!!...we have to think about the cause of effect of certain action, to think the pro's and con's of certain decision, the why and the what of certain problems and good and bad of certain behaviour...that's what differentiate us,human, from animals......
.....a thinking society will have a balance mental and material development that will ensure the society to progress longer than other societies...
..the other factor that I observe people refuse to think it is when its involve religious matters....as a Muslim, we have to think of the rules and regulation of Islam and the do's and don'ts, thats the only way we could understand the reason for matters are being allowed or forbidden to us....I agree that there are certain matters that stand as the law and should be accepted as a reason beyond our mental faculty ability that needs our total faith to accept the fact i.e the existence of heaven and hell, and life hereafter, but they are issues that we should think before embracing especially matters not involving the mandatory matters...example: it is a must to pray five times a day and no question ask, fine.....but when someone tells you that you can't touch the Koran without first having the 'wudhuk", that one should ask whether that's a 'hukum'/law or norms/kebiasaan......me believes that one need not has to be in the state of 'wudhuk' to hold the Koran on the basis that Koran was never revealed in writing but through the words of 'mouth' and by insisting that 'wudhuk' is a must before holding Koran will make it more and more difficult for muslims to have Koran in their hands....however, I agree to the fact that it is better to hold Koran when we are in 'wudhuk' as matter of respect to the holiness of the words of Allah but I don't believe it is a law/mandatory/hukum....
..though I may lack the knowledge to discuss religious issues, it will not stop me from thinking about the reasons/the why's and what's for the revelation of certain verses or laws...what differentiate me from the orientalists studying Koran, that I do not look for faults but I look for reasons for the laws to be imposed.....
..some laws are imposed by Allah to test our commitment and faith to Allah, some laws are more towards confirming that prevention is better than cure , other laws are to guide humankind towards total piousness and some others laws or to maintain pureness of human relationship...
..as a muslim, I believe in every single word of Allah revealed through Gabriel/Jibrael to prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h.....I look at things prohibited by Koran in different ways, someone asked me why we cannot consume alcohol, I would reply, you are allowed to consume many kind of drinks except alcohol......our body needs water to survive but our body will survive withour alcohol......similarly with eating pork, why can't muslim eat pork?, I would say there are many kind of meat that one allowed to eat except for pork and other wild animals as stated in Koran or through sunnah.....maybe we have not found one specific reason for the prohibition for eating pork but it is more clearer now that with madcow and birdflu deceases, there will come a time when pork will be the only easily available meat and during that time, some muslims will find reasons to legalise the eating of pork and only those whose faith remain intact will not touch the prohibited meat.... the consequences of such action will then justify the prohibition of not to consume pork as stated by Allah in Koran....waullahuaqlam....
so, thinking or analysing is a form of skill or indeed an art by itself, by thinking we become mentally strong and with knowledge we become a better person.....
